Use of Functionalized DNA Duplexes to Selectively Target the Interior of Lipid Vesicles

Proton transport across biological membranes is an indispensable process in cellular life. Using bifunctional DNA duplexes that anchor pH sensitive dyes to the membrane, we have contributed to the scientist's toolbox to follow these processes.
Our method allows to selectively incorporate the dyes on the inside of membrane vesicles by clipping the exterior dyes off with a DNA digesting enzyme.

This work was carried out in the lab of Prof. Christoph von Ballmoos.
